Swiss National Day – July 27, 2019

Swiss National Day, the day everybody eats raclette and says: “I eat raclette and it is summer!” We were lucky this year with the weather since the real heat wave passed a week before and for once it only stormed days before the event and not hours. The prior storm was still large enough to break a large tent which was supposed to protect us from the weather.

This year was a full success with just over thousand people attending this traditional event at the Boat Basin Café in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. People enjoyed the traditional songs of DJ Taxi and the wonderfully performed jazz music by Linus NYC Sextet with Gizem Gokoglu. The traditional speeches of the president of the Swiss Society of New York, Dr. Daniel Schaufelberger and the address from H.E. Mr. Markus Boerlin, Consul General of Switzerland in New York were a highlight. The German school organized a wonderfully prepared children’s corner and guests could enjoy raclette, bratwurst, cervelat and Swiss desserts. In this hot weather water, Swiss wine, and beer helped the guests stay cool. The event was concluded by great raffle prizes which were generously donated by our sponsors.

This event was only possible due to a close collaboration between the Consulate General of Switzerland, the Swiss Society of New York, the Swiss Benevolent Society, the Swiss Ski and the Swiss Soccer club and Swiss Tourism.

We thank our generous sponsors:
Rolex, Sika USA, Credit Suisse , Swiss Re, UBS, Fracht USA, Transcontainer, Osswald Parfumerie, Paragon Coffee, La Prairie, Nespresso, Victorinox, Boska, Blaser Swiss Lube, Ricola and Emmi

We hope everybody had fun and to see you next year at the real 1st of August 2020! Any inputs please do not hesitate to contact Hans Raez, Head of Swiss National Day.
