Swiss National Day - July 2022
After three years absence due to the pandemic, the Swiss community and friends of Switzerland have been eagerly looking forward to Swiss National Day 2022. The sold out event was held at Tavern on the Green in iconic Central Park on beautiful Saturday July 30, 2022. The heat wave had subsided a bit so everyone was able to enjoy the lovely Summer weather with great food, lots of drinks and fantastic musical entertainment.
The guys from the Swiss Soccer Club of New York, prepared hundreds of delicious raclettes for our guests while several food stations around the venue served other traditional Swiss dishes such as cervelats or meatloaf (leberkäse-fleischkäse). After people were able to quench their thirsts at the bar, our musical performance act started their first set of the evening. Grammy-Award winning jazz musician Linus Wyrsch and world-renowned singer Alexia Gardner delighted our guests with their beautiful music throughout the day to the enjoyment of all.
The crowd was eager to hear the welcome remarks by Ambassador Markus Börlin, Consul General of Switzerland in New York, and Daniel Schaufelberger, former President of Swiss Society of New York, who attended the Swiss National Day 2022 for the last time in their functions. We hope to see them again at future events and wish them all the best. Daniel officially handed over the baton to Jan Furrer, our new President of Swiss Society of New York, who addressed the audience with an exciting speech.
Followed by more food, drinks and musical performances, the raffle draw was something everyone was looking forward to as multiple prices such as flights to Switzerland, a gourmet chocolate basket or a Nespresso machine from our wonderful sponsors were up for grabs.
This event was only possible due to a close collaboration between the Consulate General of Switzerland, the Swiss Society of New York, the Swiss Benevolent Society, the Swiss Ski club, the Swiss Soccer club and Swiss Tourism.
